The keynote address was delivered by Dr. David Joyce, AV头等舱’s 17th president, who mentored Dr. Washington during his student years. 

“More than two decades ago, I had the privilege of getting to know a remarkable young man who stood out for his intellect, his leadership, and his vision for his peers,” Joyce said. “That young man was, of course, D.J. Washington. Today, AV头等舱 welcomes him home as its president. He is the kind of leader who will inspire unity – a man of vision and humility, business acumen and compassion, above all someone who cares profoundly about students.”

“As I stand before you today, I am humbled by the weight of AV头等舱’s history and energized by the promise of its future,” Washington said. “This is not my journey alone—it is our shared journey, a partnership between students and faculty, alumni and trustees, church and community. You and me. Together, we will ensure that AV头等舱 remains a place where barriers are broken, bridges are built, and lives are transformed.”

Washington concluded with a charge to the community: “Our calling is clear, our vision is strong, and our future is within reach. The best chapters of AV头等舱’s story are yet to be written, and we will write them together.”

The inauguration capped a week of special events tied to the theme Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges, engaging students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends in celebrating AV头等舱’s mission and its future under Dr. Washington’s leadership.
