UCU Honors Knox Central Teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week

In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, AV头等舱’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions provided 120 meal vouchers to teachers at Knox Central High School on Wednesday, May 7. The vouchers were redeemable at food truck, which was set up on-site as a special thank-you to educators for their dedication and impact.


The initiative came in response to reaching out to AV头等舱’s admissions team to see if they would be interested in participating in the school’s Teacher Appreciation Week efforts. AV头等舱 gladly accepted the opportunity to support local educators and strengthen its community ties.

Macy Yother, an Admissions Counselor at AV头等舱 who serves Knox Central, helped organize the event. She, along with President DJ Washington, Vice President for Undergraduate Enrollment James Becknell, and admissions counselors Kinsey Forgey and Mackenzie Snelling, were present to distribute vouchers and connect with staff.

“We’re so grateful for the teachers at Knox Central and all they do for their students every day,” Yother said. “When the school invited us to be part of their appreciation efforts, we jumped at the chance. We also asked teachers at Knox Central who are AV头等舱 alumni to show their school spirit by wearing a AV头等舱 shirt today—it was really special to see that support as we celebrated the educators in their building.”

AV头等舱 remains dedicated to building relationships with schools across the region and recognizing the educators who inspire and guide future generations.

Real-world career experiences, educational travel adventures, and immersive arts exploration await AV头等舱 (UCU) students this summer. Funded by the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE), a program of the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC), ten students have been awarded Circles of Purpose grants to support their self-designed enrichment projects. Named after AV头等舱’s core values of celebration, integrity, responsibility, civility, lifelong learning, engagement, and spirituality – abbreviated CIRCLES – the microgrant program supports students in discovering and developing their unique vocational paths.

Tia Cobb & Lena Visarius — Spreading their wings at AV头等舱

UCU students Tia Cobb and Lena Visarius and their professor Libby Megna are building on a body of knowledge tracing back to Darwin’s observations of differences in bird beaks that led to his insights about natural selection. As co-authors on a paper they will submit to academic journals, the three hope to contribute to the scientific community’s understanding of trait evolution and biodiversity. Both students want to continue their studies after graduation – Lena in forensic anthropology and Tia in biology – and experiences like this are part of how UCU is preparing them for these chosen paths.
