AVÍ·µÈ²Õ, LMU Enter Partnership for Physician Assistant Program

Maisie Nelson • February 10, 2022

In an ongoing effort to expand post-graduate opportunities for its students, AVÍ·µÈ²Õ College established a new articulation agreement with Lincoln Memorial University for aspiring Physician Assistants.

The agreement, which began February 1, 2022, provides a PA tract for students who complete their bachelor’s degree at AVÍ·µÈ²Õ. LMU will hold seats in their PA program for AVÍ·µÈ²Õ students who meet the eligibility criteria.

“This agreement provides a pathway for AVÍ·µÈ²Õ students to transition to LMU to join the Physician Assistant program,” said Dr. Marisa Greer, Vice President for Academic Affairs. “This is a high-demand profession projected to have a 31 percent growth rate by 2029, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and AVÍ·µÈ²Õ students are ready to fulfill those needs in our region and beyond!”

AVÍ·µÈ²Õ has signed agreements with several other professional schools in a variety of fields including, dentistry, engineering, law, medicine, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy and veterinary. Many of which also provide advantages to AVÍ·µÈ²Õ students like accelerated degrees, held seats in their program, and guaranteed entrance interviews.

UCU students Tia Cobb and Lena Visarius and their professor Libby Megna are building on a body of knowledge tracing back to Darwin’s observations of differences in bird beaks that led to his insights about natural selection. As co-authors on a paper they will submit to academic journals, the three hope to contribute to the scientific community’s understanding of trait evolution and biodiversity. Both students want to continue their studies after graduation – Lena in forensic anthropology and Tia in biology – and experiences like this are part of how UCU is preparing them for these chosen paths.
