AVÍ·µÈ²Õ Offers Free Swim Days for Local Youth This June

Maisie Nelson • June 2, 2025

AVÍ·µÈ²Õ is inviting school-aged children to enjoy free swim days every Saturday in June, beginning June 7 at the Center for Health & Learning’s Stivers Aquatic Center. These open swim opportunities are a way to give back to the community and celebrate the start of summer with local families.

Free swim days will take place only on Saturdays, and adults accompanying children will be required to pay regular admission. Weekly pool hours, including those for free swim Saturdays, will be posted on the Center’s  and on their website at .

AVÍ·µÈ²Õ is also welcoming local youth groups, daycares, and community organizations to schedule their own complimentary swim visits outside of the public Saturday events. Interested groups should contact Meghann Chesnut at mchesnut@unionky.edu to coordinate dates and times.

These community offerings come as AVÍ·µÈ²Õ prepares for the closure of the aquatic center, with the sale of the facility currently pending. The Center for Health & Learning was established with the goal of serving and uplifting the region, and AVÍ·µÈ²Õ remains committed to that purpose during this transition. The university is confident that the pending buyer and their future plans will continue that spirit of community benefit.

Memberships and party bookings will be handled with care during this time. All pre-paid memberships will be honored through July, with pro-rated reimbursements available for members who have remaining time beyond the closure. Pool parties that have already been scheduled through June 30 will proceed as planned; however, AVÍ·µÈ²Õ is no longer accepting new bookings after that date.

Additionally, AVÍ·µÈ²Õ is actively working to continue offering low-impact exercise opportunities to those who participated in the Silver Sneakers program at the aquatic center. Plans are underway to provide free classes that promote physical activity and wellness for this group, with more details to be shared soon.
